Dr. Mohamed Abdel Raouf, Program Manager – GRC Environmental Security and Sustainability Program, participated in the third United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA 3)

Dr. Mohamed Abdel Raouf, Program Manager – GRC Environmental Security and Sustainability Program, participated in the third United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA 3), which took place at UN Environment Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya on 4-6 December 2016. Dr. Raouf presented the statement on “the pollution free planet” of the Science and Technology Major Group in the plenary session of UN Environment Assembely. The Gulf Research Center participated in the meeting in its current capacity as the Global Focal Point of the Science and Technology Major Group of UN Environment.


Dr. Christian Koch, Director of the GRC Foundation held a meeting with H.E. Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Federal Republic of Germany, in Berlin.

Dr. Christian Koch, Director of the GRC Foundation held a meeting with H.E. Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Federal Republic of Germany, in Berlin. The two sides exchanges views about developments in the region in addition to discussing potential cooperation in a variety of fields.

Dr. Koch also met with Sebastian Sons, Associate Fellow for the Middle East and North Africa of the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP). During their meeting, the two discussed developments in the Gulf region and talked about upcoming programs of the DGAP when it comes to the Middle Eastern region.

Dr. Mohamed Abdel Raouf, Program Manager – GRC Environmental Security and Sustainability Program, participated in the International Conference on Climate Risk Management in Nairobi, Kenya on 5-7 April 2017. The event was co-organized by the International Center for Humanitarian Affairs and the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Dr. Mohamed Abdel Raouf, Program Manager – GRC Environmental Security and Sustainability Program, participated in the WSTA Twelve Gulf Water Conference in Manama, Bahrain, on 28-30 MARCH 2017, organized by Water Sciences and Technologies Association (WSTA), Secretariat General – GCC, and Water Resources Council of Bahrain. Dr. Raouf moderated a special session on “The Role of Regulatory Water Agencies in Efficient Water Management" aiming to share experiences from Egypt, UAE and Palestine in regulating water sectors..


GRC Chairman Dr. Abdulaziz Sager was invited by the Arab League Delegation in Paris to participate in a discussion at the Arab World Institute (Institut du Monde Arabe)

GRC Chairman Dr. Abdulaziz Sager was invited by the Arab League Delegation in Paris to participate in a discussion at the Arab World Institute (Institut du Monde Arabe) on “the future of the Arab world in light of remaining challenges.” The discussion took place as part of a celebratory event marking the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the Arab League. Dr. Sager specifically addressed the challenges of an “Arab identity,” including youth and radicalization as a result of globalization.


GRC Chairman Dr. Abdulaziz Sager participated in the annual symposium of the University of Leicester’s Kurdistan International Studies Unit, which brought together scholars to share and highlight research on Kurdish and Middle Eastern affairs.

GRC Chairman Dr. Abdulaziz Sager participated in the annual symposium of the University of Leicester’s Kurdistan International Studies Unit, which brought together scholars to share and highlight research on Kurdish and Middle Eastern affairs. This year’s main topic was “the Role of the Kurds in the Middle East and beyond: Regional and International Interactions,” and session topics included “The Middle East and Geopolitics; Political Economy, Sustainability and Development; Archaeology, History, Cultural & Language Heritage; Migration, Diaspora, Social Movements; and Conflict Resolution.
